This new year's day was one of those mornings. Retrospective, with memories of a thousand times just like it; the numerous people, the furry companions, and the grace of wings over water, rolling through my mind like a highlight reel.

After being absent from this tradition – starting each new year afield, feathers and fur, friends and family – for a couple of years now, it felt quite right to be back out with one of my closest friends.  Being in such a transitional stage of life, with so many things happening around me, little experiences like this are essential to remain rooted, firm in what’s important. You never know when family, friends, the things you value and hold to be most important to you, those  experiences, will come and go. When you least expect.

This new year’s day was one of those mornings. Retrospective, with memories of a thousand times just like it; the numerous people, the furry companions, and the grace of wings over water, rolling through my mind like a highlight reel.

I try to stay thankful for what I have been blessed with in the past, and do my best to embrace change as it, inevitably and without question, comes with the passing of time.
