January 31, 2021: Atchison, KS

An epic day, for both gun and camera, for camaraderie and dog work. The final day of Kansas’ duck season was everything we could have asked for and more.

The day started in threes. We were able to watch a chocolate, a yellow, and a black lab work, simultaneously, on birds three at a time. Three mallards. Three geese. Three gadwall. Three ringnecks.  Of course, that changed up a bit as the geese got going, but it was fun early on, and a joy to watch them all work, from the young Mila to the old Wrigley, with Paige in between.

We finished our limits on geese quite early, before they had even got started, as it turned out, which allowed us to sit back and enjoy the show with camera while we waited on one or two more wayward mallards.

An absolutely amazing day afield. One of the season’s best hunts.
