June 22, 2020: Fishing USVI

My bucket list trip. The shot at a marlin, among other things. We went out with Ocean Surfari Charters and Captain Rob out of Red Hook on St. Thomas. Had an outstanding time, despite fighting the excessive Sargassum flotillas, which sort of shut our trolling down. Fortunately, Capt Rob got us on some mahi-mahi that made for both amazing action and fantastic eats!

I had no problem giving Captain Rob and Ocean Surfari a 5-star review on Google

Outstanding experience this week out in the deep water with Captain Rob!

OS and Captain Rob accommodated our particulars for target species, worked tirelessly to make it happen, and did it while connecting just as well with the veteran fisherman in our group as he did with the novice.

He started us off great with some “Mahi-Madness” which we turned into fish tacos ourselves that night. We went from chasing marlin out deep to multiple tarpon hookups, even brought in a five foot nurse shark – all in one long trip, getting to experience a little bit of everything. We experienced plenty of fishing AND catching, and a lot of learning about what and why we were doing the things we were doing.

I’ve been with guides all over the country chasing different species, and Captain Rob – and Ocean Surfaris in general – is as knowledgeable, experienced, entertaining, and accommodating as any I’ve ever met.

Could not have asked for a better experience, and can’t wait to come back. And the retail store – quality merchandise, great deals, brought a few things back, but will be going back online for more of those rash guards!

Thanks for an outstanding and memorable experience. Until we book again! Cheers!

I had also requested some time to chase another bucket list fish – the silver king, Mr. Tarpon. While these two species don’t always go hand-in-hand – you go after one or the other on a given trip – Capt Rob accommodated, and while I couldn’t get one to boat, we had numerous hook-ups that were an absolute blast.
